of the 2009 Exemplary Community Leadership Award
Retired Santa Clara County Supervisor Blanca Alvarado
An influential leader with a career in public service that spans the better part of thirty years, Ms. Alvarado has made tremendous contributions to the communities of Santa Clara County, particularly the City of San Jose. Now retired from the Santa Clara County Board of Supervisors, it is her belief in Building Better Communities by Strengthening Families that continues to inspire her work.
Eastside College Preparatory School
Founded in 1996, Eastside College Preparatory School of East Palo Alto has expanded from a single borrowed classroom serving 8 students to a permanent campus serving 255 students this academic year. Since the first graduating class of 2000, all Eastside seniors have entered a four-year college or university.
The Health Trust
With a mission to lead the Silicon Valley community to advance wellness, The Health Trust has provided over $100 million of benefit to the community through local grant making and program services over the last decade. In addition to wellness programs such as Meals on Wheels, AIDS Services and dental care for 15,000 children annually, The Health Trust also provides professional back office accounting support for local nonprofits allowing them to focus resources on delivering services to the community.
